    Title: Visualizing Data in Fraud Investigations 
    Speaker: Steve Beltz, Special Agent, NICB

    Presentation Info: Steve will be using material from his time with the Washington State Patrol, the federal government and NICB to show how data analysis can be used to support fraud investigations. He uses real cases involving million dollar losses and shows how data can be used to create link charts, time lines, and geospatial mapping in support of intel and prosecution packets. 

    Bio: Currently, Steve works for the National Insurance Crime Bureau, where he provides criminal investigative support and liaison for insurance SIU and law enforcement, covering Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. Directly responsible for initiating and conducting investigations which result in the dismantlement of organized groups/rings, arrests of those involved, loss mitigations, restitution and reduction of insurance fraud.   In the past, Steve has been in law enforcement directly or in support operations for over 30 years.  His past assignments include cyber security work at Office of Naval Intelligence and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency as well as Threat Intelligence at T-Mobile.  Steve also served as Assistant Director of the Federal, Recovery Operation Center in Washington DC performing “big data” analysis in support of fraud against the federal government.  He has also managed federal contracts that include network security, computer, audio and video forensics and e-discovery operations located at the U.S. DoS, DEA, FBI, ICE, and DOD.  Before that, Steve had been employed by the Washington State Patrol where he spent most of his career as a detective specializing in major crime scene investigations, computer forensics and criminal intelligence.
